Working together towards better sexual health education for migrants

The project’s international partners in Finland, Estonia, Greece and Portugal have long identified the need for more education on sexual health for migrants. Therefore, the development of open online learning materials for migrants and professionals working with them was seen as a solution to this challenge, and we decided to apply for funding from the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships programme. We received the positive funding decision in the summer of 2022 and started our cooperation with a kick-off meeting in Turku, Finland later that year. The kick-off was organized as a hybrid meeting, with most of the colleagues participating in the event at Turku UAS campus. It was great to meet the colleagues face-to-face, and they also got to experience the first snowfall of the winter!

We started the project work by creating a common understanding of the themes and questions for the first set of panel discussions in the project countries. Two separate panel discussions will be held in the spring and summer of 2023 in each partner country with both migrants and professionals working with them.  With the help of these discussions, we will receive valuable information on which kind of type of training is needed and which methods should be used.

Migrants and professionals will also be involved in other activities during the project. This will ensure that the material we will produce in the ICEX project is relevant and meets its objectives. Migrants and professionals working with them will also play an important role in the piloting of the ICEX training package that we will create in the project. They will test the use of the training package and provide feedback on its content, learning methods and overall usefulness.

The ICEX training package will be openly available on this website after the project and will be translated into several languages. It will be supported by an evidence-based electronic ICEX manual for professionals to help them plan and implement sexual health education and counselling in a new and innovative way. The manual will also serve as a general sexual health guide for professionals.

Information on the findings of the panels and other activities in the project will be available during the project. We will be posting what is happening in the ICEX project here on the website as well as on our social media pages. Follow us for more news on our Facebook page here!
